Night and Day at the Hennepin Avenue Masonic Temple
The Hennepin Center for the Arts was built as a Masonic Temple in 1888. The building originally featured two 20 foot onion domes on the 6th Street side. The top of the facade, facing Hennepin displays the words “Masonic Temple” along with the symbols of the terrestrial and celestial globes carved into sandstone. The imposing Masonic Temple was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975 and was renovated into a home for a variety of arts organizations in 1978.
