Sailing on Lake Harriet in the Sixties
The above video is just another scrap I snatched from Youtube, but I would be surprised and amazed if the footage didn’t came from somebody who had something to do with the Lake Harriet Yacht Club. The organization started up way back in 1941 and became a non-profit corporation in 1947. The Articles of Incorporation state the purpose of the club is “to promote the physical and mental culture and the social interests of its members, to advance their interest in aquatic and other recreational sports”. and they hopes to accomplish this by “encouraging sports, particularly that of yachting, and in connection therewith to promote the science of seamanship and navigation and to conduct races and regattas”. Lake Harriet still fills with sail boats on summer evenings and The Lake Harriet Yacht Club still sponsors weekly races, plus regattas and other events at the lake every summer. The 2012 schedule is already posted. It’s really not that far away is it?
