579 Selby Then and Now
I wish I had spent more time and money at Il Vesco Vino to miss the place. I think I had a meal there at least twice. I always meant to go back and now it’s gone. I don’t remember anything about the food, but I loved the atmosphere. One night I climbed at least four winding sets of stairs to check out a really mellow jazz combo in the attic bar. I know it looks like a four story building from the outside, but I remember five flights of stairs. Last year 579 Selby became the home of Dr. Chocolate’s Chocolate Chateau, gift store, cafe, interpretive exhibit, hall of fame, and event space. I stepped in one night for a cup of coffee and tried a couple chocolates that looked like polished glass. I’ll be back soon enough. I just need to find a little more time and money.

Hi N,
Thank you for the kind words.
The building has four floors, which may seem like a lot, but it’s only two stories to the events center/dessert bistro/bar on the third floor. The fourth floor is more of a romantic bonus.
The stairs each have a 1/2-way landing,, but it’s just two flights total, i.e., from from first to second, where the exhibit is nearly open, and from the second to third. Not that far, and well worth the exercise if you like chocolate vodka martinis, craft beers, and excellent wines.
My best,
Dr. Chocolate
