Such Fun at Sleizer’s Club 21

Sleizer’s

the dance band at Sleizer’s Club 21, 1942

Sleizer’s Club once served man sized drinks in a distinctively different Atmosphere. If you walked in on a weekend nights you could dine and dance to the swell sounds of Rollie Anderson’s  Hammond Organ  and the “Sleizer Family” dance band. On August 3rd, 1946 Billboard Magazine reported a $10,000 damage suit was instituted by Sleizer’s Club 21 owner Irene G. Sleizer, against Billy B. Hoke, columnist, and the Minneapolis Shopping News. The paper claimed that Sleizer purchased her liquor license for $70,000 and this resulted in her landlord seeking to file a lease cancellation suit. The Shopping News published a retraction.

Was looking through some photos of my 90 year old mother and found one of her having dinner at Club 21 with her two sisters and her step-brother. Circa 1943 maybe(?). I’d share it but we don’t have a scanner or other techy stuff but could get my daughter to do so if you would like to see it. The brother in law is in uniform. Very cute!
