The Minneapolis Academy
The Minneapolis Academy was founded as a business training school on in 1879. The original building was on Harmon Place. In 1884 the school began to model itself on New England academies and prepare students for college. The academy purchased almost two acres at the corner of Harvard and Delaware and this brownstone building went up in 1889 at a cost of $35,000. Two years later the school had 180 students of both sexes.

Great Image. Do you know when the building was demolished? Also, what’s the story with the winged figure on the roof apex?
I think the figure on the roof is probably Principal E. D. Holmes. He took over 1884 and really shook things up at the old academy. I’m sorry I can’t tell you when the building went down. My source is a History of Minneapolis compiled in 1893.
