Something to Eat at Stabby’s

I never thought I would be the sort of blogger that blogs about what they had for lunch. I never imagined myself typing slowly, thinking about food. The rain drove me out of the swamps today and I settled in for brunch at Stabby’s Cafe on Cedar and 42nd. I’ve been eating at Stabby’s on rainy days ever since they opened a couple years ago. This place is a bare bones, bare knuckled, all American corner cafe. The only thing I’ve ever ordered off the menu is the Kristin’s Vegetarian Revenge ( Veggie sausage, tomato, onion, mushrooms, spiced hash browns in the omelet and *choice of cheese. 8.99) and I like it. Between rainy days I dream of Kristin’s fresh eggs, good grease and Cajun spices. Don’t go into Stabby’s looking for a unique atmosphere, gourmet coffee or special smoothies. You probably won’t find it. There are some autographed pictures of 70′s television stars taped up on the wall. They used to have some beautiful paintings of alleys, front yard gardens and garages. Stabby’s is a real big improvement over the Magpie or Isabella’s. I’m so glad there’s finally some place I can spend my money on this corner. I recommend setting yourself up on one of the tables in the front windows. If you get there early enough you can look across the street to Hilda’s Hair Hut and watch Hilda slowly brush her ankle length hair 100 times Even if you don’t like the food you should probably buy the t-shirt. Tell ‘em Nokohaha sent you. In the meantime I’ll be working on more blogs about buildings, swamps and food.
