Here’s a couple postcard views of Lake of the Isles. The lake is known for its two wooded islands, its long north arm, and the stately houses of the Kenwood and Lowry Hill. Next to Minnehaha Falls, Lake of the Isles has to be one of the most romantic destinations in the city. The two wooded islands are small wildlife refuges. Exploring or landing on either Mike’s Island or Raspberry Island is prohibited, but I usually hike out there and look around in the winter. The lake was created in the early 20th century by dredging a small lake and swamp that was called “Four Islands Lake” or good old “Wita Tomna” in Dakota. The dredged materials were used to create about 36 acres of park land around the lake.
