Among the finest hotels in the country the West hotel of Minneapolis stands conspicuous. In point of interior finish and beauty it is excelled by few. The building is eight stories high and cost $1,500,000. It is built of Joliet marble, and red pressed brick with terra cotta trimmings, in combination of the Queen Anne and Colonial styles, with 196×174 feet ground plan, and has a total height of 200 feet.
The lobby which is capable of holding 1,000 people, discloses the grand staircase and galleries, and a wealth of ornamentation in mahogany, marble, bronze, brass and stained glass, which is a distinctive feature of the structure.
