Parkway Motor Court

The Parkway Motor Court opened in 1947 with 21 units, nine years later the operation expanded with an additional 14 rooms. In 1959 construction started on a $450,000 addition to the Parkway Motor Court at 4733 S. Hiawatha Avenue. The president of Parkway Service Inc., Jack Polkinghorne, told the Minneapolis Evening Star that his general contractor, Kingbay Construction Co. would begin building an addition and complete the project in less than six months. The 82-by-123-foot, two story structure provided 48 new units, boosting the motor court’s total to 83. A conference hall and dining facilities for groups of up to 250 proved to be a popular local attraction.
