The new St. Regis hotel, corner Ninth and Marquette is now complete and will open its doors to the public tomorrow, arrayed in all the splendor and luxury of a modern hostelry. There is no better exemplification of the rapid growth of Minneapolis and upper Marquette than by the Erection of this structure, which means to embrace an entire quarter of a block, facing on Ninth street. It is of fireproof construction throughout, with the exception of the window and door frames, the remainder of. the building being of concrete and steel; brick and tile. The floors are also of solid concrete construction, but covered with heavy rugs, which measure up to within three inches of the walls.
It was erected at a cost Of $150,000 and was built for Mr. H. L. Dodge for the comfort of the people of Minneapolis and the traveling public. Years of experience in some of the largest hostelries in the United States has made Mr. Dodge foresee the dire necessity of a close-in downtown hotel, where business men and women may live at a very moderate cost in the height of comfort, convenience and luxury. Never before in the history of Minneapolis has such an attempt been made to provide a downtown home which is, in a way, away from the hotel idea. yet offering the many advantages and services that one would expect in a high class hotel.
