Casablanca Nights

It’s no wonder that the Casablanca, 408 Hennepin Ave. plays to a full house every night of the week, when we take into consideration the fact that they provide guests with more individual entertainers than any club in the northwest, on an average. The Casablanca, now under the management of William ‘Bill’ Donnelly, will continue to serve up one of this town’s biggest entertainment dishes. Take the Three Tones for example. Each member of that unit is a star i his own right. Hal Garvin, guitar man. is also a grand singer. as is Dick Link, who handles . the bass fiddle. Ken Kingsbury, the accordion man was a favorite with an overseas USO unit playing the European theater.

Pappy Handy and his Hickory Nuts are perhaps one of the cleverest novelty bands at work today. Harry Blons and His Musical Maestros share the afternoon
program, while Phil Velasco and His Royal Filipinos hammer out the hot stuff on the front stage in the evening. For the Sunday evening jam sessions, Hod Russell’s Rhythm Kings furnish the music.

Have you ever noticed the intricate decorative panels at the Casablanca? Certainly you have! But it probably never Occurred to you to ask about them. Those panels are solid copper sheets on which Mexican Indian artists have hand-tooled thousands of designs, not one of which is a duplicate. A hammer and a punch was used to perforate the metal. making outlines of wildly plumed birds, animals, geometric designs, etc. In all, they make a mighty interesting study and during recess you can dance to the music of Billy Sly’s slick band. or listen to the piano artistry or Dave Ackerson, playing on the front stage.
