More like Morrill

The architect responsible for the design of your favorite brick buildings on the Northrop Mall was Clarence H. Johnston. The best known and most recognizable prominent of his designs is probably Northrop Auditorium. Completed in 1929,the five-story building at the far end of the mall has an enormous brick pediment above the familiar portico that fronts the much loved auditorium that has served as a popular performance space for so many years. Just across the way, the Administration building, better known as Morrill Hall was built to house the University Of Minnesota administration offices. Completed in 1925, the building’s facade resembles a magnificent brick and limestone Temple of Athena Nike. A lovely addition to our Twin City Acropolis. It’s all Greek to me!
