Interstate Park, St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin, and Taylor Falls, Minnesota, 30 mites from Minneapolis and Saint Paul. The rock ledges at the Dalles are ancient lava flows. of which seven may be identified, rising like giant steps above the rivet. The lava. or trap, is well jointed. so that there are vertical precipices and isolated crags along the St. Croix River.
Here there are many picturesque rock formations, steep rock masses rising over 200 feet above the river.”The Cross of the Dalles” is a remarkable holy shrine stone. On the Minnesota side is the Devil’s Chair,’a grotesque, chimney column of rock juts skyward like a finger extended to the heavens.
